Well, by almost, I mean two months and twenty days from this posting: January 23, 2018, baby! SO CLOSE!
Here’s how Dear Dwayne, With Love happened: Last year, an editor from Lake Union Publishing got in touch with me/my agent because she’d read Must Love Otters, enjoyed it (Yay!), and wanted to know if Eliza Gordon had any new projects in the works. Well, golly, as a matter of fact — hell, yeah, I do! Always!
So we sent off the synopsis and a chunk of the unfinished manuscript, and POOF! New book deal!
I’m super excited to share this book with readers as it was a lot of fun building what I think will be a unique reading experience. It’s written in a partial epistolary format, which means the story is told as a combination of narrative, text messages, blog entries, emails, faxes, and letters. Crazy, right?
If you follow me at all on Facebook, you’ve probably heard me swoon about my movie-star obsessions, the beautiful muses I affectionally refer to as “my boyfriends.” (Yes. Mr. Gordon is fine with this. What choice does he have, though, really?) For Dear Dwayne, everyone’s favourite Hawaiian/Black Nova Scotian, WWE/movie star/demigod/superdad was my #1 muse — and this is very obvious from page one.
And he’s not the only sweetie to have made his way out of my imagination and onto the pages. Are you a fan of Poldark? Or have you seen any of The Hobbit films? Google Kili the Dwarf or Ross Poldark (from the new PBS series). Yeahhhhhh, that guy. That’s my character named Marco Turner. YOU’RE WELCOME. (Sing this like Maui would.)
(Note: I have refrained from posting a photo so that in case this actor doesn’t match the Marco you envision when you read Dear Dwayne, With Love, then I haven’t ruined anything for you.)
“But hey, Eliza, how did you get away with this? The Rock is, like, THE most famous, top-earning movie star in the WORLD!” I know, right? Don’t you fret; we absolutely obtained legal permission through the mighty force that is the Amazon/Lake Union Publishing legal department and Dwayne Johnson’s legal team. Because the book only shows DJ in the best light (easy since he’s dreamy), we were given the green light to move forward. Booyah!
I know it’s been a while since you’ve had a new book from me — since 2015’s Hollie Porter Builds a Raft — but in my humble defense, Dear Dwayne, With Love was written in 2016. The publishing machine just sometimes takes a bit longer to get things out into the world. (I was concurrently finishing major rewrites on the young adult novel with HarperCollins Canada and Sky Pony, which also comes out in 2018), so I promise I haven’t been slacking. And I’m just SO EXCITED to finally have a new baby to share with you!
Make sure to add Dear Dwayne, With Love to your Goodreads lists — and it’s also available for preorder from Amazon right now. Goodreads adds and preorders do SO MUCH to help authors get the word out — and it makes our publishers VERY HAPPY! So thanks in advance!
I’ll have NetGalley links available sometime in December for bloggers and reviewers, so stay tuned.
Thank you so very much for your continued support of the Eliza Gordon books. I cannot wait to share Dear Dwayne, With Love with YOU!
[NOTE: This is a work of fiction. While Dwayne Johnson p/k/a The Rock is a real person, events relating to him in the book are a product of the author’s imagination. Mr. Johnson is not affiliated with this book, and has not endorsed it or participated in any manner in connection with this book.]
