Who is Jenn Sommersby?

It’s me! I swear! Eliza Gordon is just a pen name to keep my brands separate (and parents happy). Official bio:

Jennifer Sommersby writes whatever stories are yelling at her loudest, though her published work for young adults includes a YA adult fantasy/adventure, Sleight, published with HarperCollins Canada, Sky Pony (US), and Prószyński i S-ka (Poland). Sleight was a Canadian Children’s Book Centre Best Book for Kids and Teens, Fall 2018, and an Ontario Library Association Best Bets Honourable Mention Book for Young Adults, 2019.

Sleight’s sequel, The Undoing, published March 31, 2020, in Canada (e-book only), and as an e-book and hardcover under the title Scheme on April 21, 2020, in the US. (Note that as of May 2024, availability for these titles is limited. Sleight and Scheme will be reissued for the Canadian market in June 2024, in ebook and paperback with hardcover to follow this summer, published via SGA Books.)

As a recipient of a 2019 British Columbia Arts Council Creative Writers Grant, Jenn is working on her next YA project, an eco/climate fantasy adventure focused on water scarcity. She is also the author and co-creator of the YA novel, Fish Out of Water: A Little Mermaid Story, in conjunction with the YAP TV, a YouTube channel with 1.96 million subscribers.

A twenty-two-year resident of Coquitlam, BC, Jenn is mom to humans and creatures alike, including her three very pampered rescue tuxedo cats. Her granddog, Pippin Took (miniature longhaired Dachshund), is a Canadian Grand Champion with so many titles behind his name, he should be teaching at Harvard.

In her day job, Jenn is an editor (developmental, line, copy) and educator. She’s also a committed bibliophile, a fan of fierce females (Jo March and Joan of Arc, for the win!), and a Superman freak.
